Description of the selected incident

Once, I was assigned the role of volunteering the project on increasing the speed of deliveries in the production. I was entrusted with the responsibility of tracking the production line activities. At the initial stage, I was nervous about how to deal with such huge responsibility. However, I consulted the manager for sharing the doubts. The manager and the senior and experienced manager suggested me to consider Planning Organizing Leading and Controlling (POLC) framework, which would help me in managing the responsibility in an efficient and effective manner.

At the primary stage, I constructed planning for dealing with the provided responsibilities. Within this, I allotted time to each activity, which I need to perform. Along with this, I also developed short term goals, which improved my focus within the activities. I evaluated the goals, which proved beneficial in terms of assessing the effectiveness, feasibility and appropriateness. My emphasis was on the objectives, which I identified for upgrading the standards and quality of my performance.

My next step was organizing the plans according to the requirements. In this, I considered checklists and templates, which enhanced the awareness towards the extent to which I have been successful in fulfilling the goals. I also indulged in group discussions, which broadened my perspectives towards completing the tasks properly. Team work helped me in reducing the knowledge gaps, which acted as obstacle towards exposing quality performance. Therefore, I requested the manager to allot me some assistants, who would help me to organize the plans.

 

When I got the assistants, I conducted budgets for adopting performance management system, which would be essential for tracking the performance. I conducted group discussions, where my intention was to mould the team members into my standpoint. However, while making the decisions for implementing the systems in the activities, I involved and consulted the team members. This coordination helped me to avert the instances of conflicts, discriminations and harassments. Moreover, this coordination and consciousness towards others’ need enhanced my leadership skills.  

Teamwork helped me in controlling the performance of the team members. I evaluated my performance in terms of the identified goals and objectives. For this, I took the help of Gibbs Reflective Cycle and personality tests. I used the scores of these tests for measuring the exposed performance.

Critical evaluation

 I felt that planning was important in terms of documenting and prioritizing the tasks according to the requirements. As the project was on increasing the speed of the deliveries, planning was crucial for averting any kind of errors. Involving the higher authorities, stakeholders and shareholders in the planning process, proved beneficial in broadening the scope and arena of the business. According to me, organizing the tasks according to the requirements seemed fruitful in terms of reducing the error rates slowly and gradually. Typical evidence of this lays in the inclusion of performance management systems within the strategies. Monitoring the performance of the team members, while volunteering, enhanced my leadership skills, abilities and competencies. Evaluation of the exposed performance acted assistance in terms of achieving personal and professional development.
