Question:

Quantitative Journal Article Review

This assignment consists of two parts: you will be declaring the topic for the Final Paper (in the abstract) and finding ONE quantitative journal article to review that is related to the topic you have chosen for the Final Paper.  Your topic must be relevant to the field of counselling psychology.

The purpose of an article review is to communicate the main points of a study and to discuss both the implications and strengths and weaknesses of the design.   The review is not meant to re-iterate the details of the study and paraphrase each and every point; rather, it should summarize and discuss the study.  These assignments should be seen as an opportunity for you to demonstrate your understanding of the course concepts, particularly in the Discussion section.   Quotes should be used sparingly or not at all.  The JAR you will complete for this assignment should be about 2 – 3 pages in length.  There are no penalties for going slightly over this limit, but the final length should be close.  As a rule of thumb, aim to write about 1/3 page for each of the five main section headings in the template (Introduction, Method, Results, Implications, Discussion).  Use quotes sparingly, if at all; they will not be counted for content or length.

Answer:

Statement of the problem:

Impacts Of Abortion On Women Who Perform Abortion Deliberatley.

Introduction

Abortion is the premeditated extinction of a human pregnancy. In history, many women have tried to terminate their pregnancies that are unwanted. Abortion might be illegal or not illegal depending on the rules and regulations of each and every nation. However, some women do not consider whether it is illegal or not. They always go the abortion methods that only put their health in danger. This has negatively impacted on the health of women in different ways. Those women who undergo the unsafe methods of abortion expose their lives at the risk of dangerous medical complications. The restrictive abortion laws and regulations are only laid to assist in protecting the lives of women.

Hypothesis to be tasted:

The psychological effects include the following; personal relationships. During the time when a woman is expectant and wants to commit an abortion, they require support from their partners. According to research, we find that weak relationships always lead to abortion and may bring forward a negative outcome due to frustrations.

The second psychological effect of abortion is the foetal abnormality. It has been discovered that most women normally lose control of their own bodies after committing abortion due to the foetal oddity. They lose their self esteem and in most cases the sensitive organs of their bodies become inactive. At that particular condition, they are not able to control their bodies. Many women who have undergone the genetic screening have also raised their levels of grief and pain due to the process. This affects the way in which their brains operate and the ability to think because they are in pain.

Despite the negative outcomes that abortion brings to women, there are also positive outcomes of abortion. We find that some women normally have psychological torture due to the decisions that they made concerning their pregnancies. When a woman decides to keep the pregnancy and the other decides to terminate the pregnancy, there will be different impacts on the two decisions. The one who has terminated the pregnancy will be stress free from mental torture as compared to the one who decides to keep. This only depends in the manner in which the conception was done, either with a wrong or right person.

The decision to terminate pregnancy is both psychologically and emotionally difficult for women to make. The aftermaths of such decisions like guilt, regrets, shame may make them not to tell anyone that they had an abortion. They are always mentally tortured after making such decisions and therefore require counseling to be done to them. In view of the above methodological disadvantages, the future studies should focus on how to come up with the solutions for these impacts of abortion to psychological outcomes.

Literature Review:

According to various literature reviews by different individuals, it is rare for abortion to cause negative psychological effects that last or the immediate effects. However one review supported the fact there are psychological outcomes after abortion is carried out.

The journal article I selected is “proceedings of the 3rd human and social sciences at the common conference.”The article review title is “understanding the emotional reactions of women after abortion.” This journal supports the ideas above about the psychological outcomes of abortion in a woman. It is true that abortion has both negative and positive effects on women. However, the negative results consume the bigger percentage in women. Kakija In his journal says that, abortion mentally tortures women after the action and causes them grief. He says that; “Unprocessed grief can also cause people to “stay stuck” in anger without even realizing the source of their anger.  Not connecting the depression with the unprocessed grief surrounding an abortion choice is typical…” They end up living in regrets as to why they committed the illegal act (Kakija, 2015).

Some are also afraid of being traumatized when they share with others that they committed abortion and therefore they end up living to blame themselves daily for what they did. Some women after abortion are afraid of living in guilt. Out of stress, they may end up taking their lives away for fear of being rejected by family members. The author therefore calls upon the other researchers to assist in coming with up with a solution to this problem. The guidance and counseling team should play their role in ensuring that the women who commit abortion are counseled so that they do not end up in making risky decisions to their health. He says that; “Sometimes a deep feeling of sadness will set in immediately.  Because abortion is a final decision that can’t be taken back, I believe most women are forced to go into a period of stuffing down the sadness and getting on with life.”

Research Methodology

The research methodology used in this survey was qualitative approaches to the necessary individuals. The information above was retrieved from a number of women who had experienced the abortion process and really understands what it feels like. Some of the factors and the impacts that were discussed have already been pointed above.

Evidence of insight and synthesis of ideas:

From other parts of the course, it is evidenced that counseling psychology is a required field of study because it is of significance importance in the society. When an individual is emotionally affected, he or she needs a counselor to be able to assist so that they are not traumatized further. The guidance and counseling team plays an important role in ensuring that the women who commit abortion are counseled so that they do not end up in making risky decisions to their health.
